shitting around
so, i was looking at the different UC COM classes online this morning. in the class below me, 9 of those people started out in my class, 4 were students of mine (TPR). in the class 2 below me, 7 were my students. i like to think that i am the reason that 0.5% of the class of 2008 got in. a measly 3 were students of mine in the class of 2009, however, one was in my sign language classes in college, he is an interesting character....i have run into him several times in the last year or two, was always curious. it was like he was giving me his oral resume, which i dont know WHY, but he was....
and there was someone who was in our class who is now the class of 2008... who knows.
it sounds shitty, but i am glad that i have scraped by and not had to repeat a year or anything, i dont think i could have done it.

career path
so yes, it is definately anesthesia.
possibly if i had done ED in my 3rd year instead of my 4th i would have gone down that path, but, there are some things about it (mostly logistical and not related to that particular field necessarily) that i quite dislike, for instance, the scheduling. even as an attending you may work sunday 7p-7a, monday 11p-7a, off tuesday, wednesday 3p-11p, off thursday friday 7a-7p or something of the sort (although the UC ED attendings only work 12 hour shifts, but, you get the gist). and i dont think that constant variability in my schedule would work terribly well for me.
like surgery, if you could practice ED in a bubble of just practicing it, and not having to deal with logistical things or people or schedules or timing or whatever else (i guess that is to say, 9-5 surgery or ed or whatever) i would probably have a tough debate on my hand, as it is, besides the inherant attraciveness of anesthesia, the schedule is a nice thing.

from steve from somewhere else
quoth the "sports guy":
What would I rather see? That's easy -- a female NHL coach. How would she dress? What would her mullet look like? Would she end up looking like a mustache-less Jeff Foxworthy wearing Paula Poundstone's clothes? At the very least, let's dress Barry Melrose up in drag for a few games and give this idea a test run.
What will we see? That's easy -- a female president. If you don't think Hillary Clinton will be running the country in four years, you're crazy. Ever been stuck in a room full of women when they decide on something ridiculous like "Andie McDowell has been the most beautiful woman in Hollywood for the past 15 years" and they will absolutely stick together until the death when you're posing counterarguments? Well, I think that's how the 2008 election is going to unfold -- Hillary is going to be Andie McDowell-ed right into the presidency. If she becomes president, that means any woman can become president. It's too important not to vote for her. So they'll vote for her.
(And just for the record, I probably will, too -- I miss having Bill Clinton around. Imagine having him on tour as the First Man? How much trouble could he get into? It would be just as if he was the president again, only without any responsibility. Think about it -- even when he did have responsibility, the whole Lewinsky debacle happened. As the First Man? Anything's possible.)

oh sh!t
well, i have had all of 3 hours of ED experience, and i think I may have chosen the wrong field with anesthesia!
i hope i am wrong, because this will really suck my ass with logistics, and i hate it, and so on, would be a pain in my ass to change my schedule, change my plans and change what letters i would need to get, and i probably wouldnt be able to get an ed rotation in a timely fashion and GAA!!!
i hope i end up disliking it
