ma mere

so, thursday mom yahoo!'s me and eventually asks why i am not in class. then sites the schedule for things and blah blah blah....she was nagging under the guise of questions. we all knwo that she believes people should all go to class cause it is so helpful. myself--not much of an auditory learner.
so, i call her on it, tell her to stop nagging me and that i can handle it.
and she says "ok, sorry"
for those who know her, im sure saying that i was stunned when this happend, would make sense. that is like she was conceding that it may not be necessary/appropriate for her to nag me about this, when it is "my" money, and i am 23, and can decide whether or not to go to class...

fast forward to about half an hour ago.

talking to mom--i called her after my oto rotation, which was quite interesting (note on that in a bit)....and kind of out of the blue she says something like the following

i am sorry that i am so hard on you, about school and your clothes and things. i'm not like that to beth. i know how frusturating it is, cause my mom was exactly like that too me. she would say "i know youre smart, why arent you getting the highest grades in the class" and things. i do it for the same reasons she does...

this is the first time that she said anything like that to me...so, i did what any normal person would do, cry 8D

i dont really have anything more to say about that now. if you know my mom and my relationship with her, you will kinda get how big this was. if not, whatever, move on.

so, the oto thing.
two interesting occurences.
introductory note: i often volunteer for guinea pig like activities cause a) most people dont want to, and it doesnt bother me and b) i learn that way too

when one guy looked in my mouth and saw that i had a bifed uvula he immediately said 'did you have problems with your ears as a kid' i say 'yea...' and i proceede to be confused. so he goes on to explain that something about the musculature of the soft palate is awry with a bifed uvula and it prevents the eustacian tubes from opening properly and so you get ear infections. HOW COOL. then he asked if i had tubes as a kid, and i did, several times i think...

i also volunteered for the nose/pharynx scope [note to self, dont volunteer for this again, OR request more topical anesthetic] anyway, they are looking around and one of the docs asks if i had my adenoids out the points out to the rest of hte group, a huge scar. it is just FASCINATING the things that you can see now a days.
