Kerry

After living there for so many years, you think I'd be smarter than to pin my hopes on the good judgement of the people of Ohio. Oh well. I'd go ahead and get your abortions now, while they still are legal.

The only good thing about this is that now P.Diddy is obligated to kill Dave.

I think easier thing to do would be give tony a loaded gun in a room with dave.

Such inspired, righteous rage towards Dave's lack of participation in the electoral process... all lost to a hackneyed joke, Tony. Either that, or you've bought into the whole "Cheney Eats Babies" urban legend...

...which I wish we could prove.

I've come to a realization about this election. I think I know what finally buried Kerry's campaign: Mary Cheney.

By mentioning Dick's lesbian daughter in that last debate, Kerry opened a floodgate of accusations. It introduced a torrent of garbage criticisms which Lynn Cheney so disgustingly coined in her "...bad man ... cheap and tawdry political trick..." vitriol. It's a insincere and incredulous claim.

Of course, Kerry mentioned Mary Cheney realizing that his running mate had already played the same card. Edwards had done it only a handfull of days earlier with no -- and I mean ZERO -- repercussions. Yet when Kerry mentions her, it's open season on the head of the ticket. It's almost as if the GOP knew that if they let the little sparrow chirp away they'd have a clean shot at the pheasant.

And it worked! There were many Kerry supporters I know whom bought into the spin claiming they didn't appreciate the "low-blow" Kerry was trying to swing against Bush.

Mary Cheney is a lesbian and (I'm willing to bet) has been one for some time. This was and still is well-known. Yet since her father became VP, he's turned a blind eye to these bans on homosexual civil unions and/or legal definitions for religous cerimony. Many years ago, Cheney did the fairest thing he could as a neocon political operative: kept his stinkin' hamfists off it. But now he had to make a choice as VP of the nation, and he chose to let it go.

Mary Cheney and the language the administration uses to speak about her is hypocritical proof positive. This is not to say that the Cheneys do not or should not love their daughter for who she is. Yet Dick, Lynn, and Georgie-boy are willing to suspend that love for political gain.

It was a mother's public, pap, and opportunistic indignance that I feel bought Bush those 130,000 votes he needed.

While agree with everything mentioned above (including violent actions towards Dave), the central driving factor behind Bush's re-election has been overlooked. It's all about fear, plain and simple. While these other issues were factors, none were as ultimately persuading as this underlying negative emotion. The people of this country live in a terrorist state, not created by radical or fundamentalist muslims, but created by a government aimed at maximizing control. For example, the terror level alert system. Does this system does nothing but remind people that the world is unsafe, it doesn't alter their daily activities or effect outcomes in any respect, but it keeps butterflies in their stomach, everytime it goes from yellow to orange to yellow to orange, without explanation or recommendation for safety. I'm not sure if it is intended or not, but Bush is quickly becoming that which has been identified as our enemy, a religious, fundamentalist, terrorist state where the ends justify the means and the expenditure of human lives are easily rationalized.
The continental US has been the target of two foreign terror attacks in the last century (all others, like the Oklahoma city bombings were perpetrated by our own citizens and were not islamic), both devised by the same person and aimed at the same target. When did this become and epidemic of terror? How does this justify the huge expenditures and sacrifices of personal rights? Well, it doesn't, but it makes an awful lot of Bush's constituents happy and rich.
The people of this country re-elected Bush because he told them explicitly, that if he was not elected their safety would be compromised and that none other could protect their home. They believed because the average person doesn't want an explanantion, they just want answers. Even if these answers are irrational, immaterial, or frank lies. If someone will tell them what they wish to hear and assure them that they need not think, they will do whatever you ask. So they did.
We have not been attacked because the terrorists have achieved their objective, we are in debt, locked down, with the worst economy in decades. But the people in the country are happy because their placebo president has protected them from attacks that were never intended, planned, or executed. Only when these people have pushed past their irrational fear will they elect a leader who will provide for their needs. Who knows when that will happen.

While that is a good part of the argument, it is not the whole thing. Lehay, Fallwell, Robertson, Rove---these guys want a theorcracy....gays are a large part of it, abortion, values, morals. They want to impose a value system on the country and use government to enforce it...while out the other part of their ass they are for less government.

I agree Neal, fear is the means by which they will achieve those objectives, and your right, these people are seizing an opportunity.

For me, the most serious concern is that much of the impending damage may not be reversible, even if leaders with vastly different agendas move into power. We needed more than to vote Bush out of office, he needed to be punished legally, to set a precedence. Our leaders need to realize that they cannot abuse the system and escape unscathed.

Who knows what will happen, things may not go as badly as predicted, but optimism is hard to come by nowadays.

Worse comes to worse, I'm moving to Switzerland, or at least the Pacific coast, where Bush's effects are less pronounced.

Take it easy Neal.

Hey I couldn't vote I was too busy rounding up my Red Sox "pinko militia" (think about it) in boston. I had planned to do it the week before elections unfortunately 2 grandparents died. I'm sure they are apologizing in the afterlife for the inconvenience they caused the state of ohio by losing one popular vote in a district that went to kerry anyway. Oh and I am arming my pinko militia with the now legal folding-stock flash hidden romanian ak-47 with 50 round drum clip of teflon coated ammunition. Viva la revolucion baby! Now where did I put that "Che for dummies" book......
